Becoming Twice-Compassionate: Online Support Group Guidelines & Orientation

Group Guidelines:

  • Respect privacy; do not share any personal details that others may disclose during our group session.

  • Refrain from judging or fixing others when responding to other group members; speak from your own experience about your own experiences.

  • Honor your limits and take care of yourself when needed; participate only to the extent that it works for you and your needs at this point in your healing process.

  • Ask for what you need from the group facilitator and from group participants; this is a space to practice receiving support from others, which may feel uncomfortable or foreign at times.

  • Look for good intentions in fellow group participants; we all have strengths and limitations, we may misspeak or make a misstep in our process, let’s hold grace for each other (while also practicing self-advocacy).

Suggestions for Participation:

-Arrive on time and stay for the full session. This will help us create a cohesive experience and make the most of our time together. Arriving late or leaving early can disrupt group trust as well as the flow of conversation.

-Please keep your camera on as much as possible. Keeping your camera on will help promote engagement and connection, this is a small group experience where it is important to be able to see one another to support our shared sense of trust and safety.

-Bring anything with you that will help you stay focused and comfortable. This could include drinks, snacks, fidgets, a cozy blanket, extra pillows, etc. If you need to get up at any time to take care of personal needs, feel free to do so. Taking care of YOU is important.

-Take steps to protect your privacy that will help you feel comfortable within the group. You are welcome to change your zoom name to your first name only, for example. You will not be asked to disclose your geographic location, though you are free to share it if you'd like.
